Workshop Description

This intermediate workshop is designed to enhance your skills on the potter’s wheel through focused, one-to-one tuition. Over two immersive days, you will develop your throwing practice and complete a series of finished works. The workshop concentrates on essential techniques including centering, efficient use of clay, and refining form and proportion. It offers a concentrated and supportive learning environment to build confidence and improve consistency in your throwing.

Day 1 – Throwing & Skill Development

The first day focuses on strengthening your throwing technique through guided fun exercises , like 'the weight ladder' and 'one lump two pots’. We will explore ways to create lighter, more refined pots with greater accuracy, along with practical, user-friendly methods for reproducing forms. There will be ample time for practice, to experiment and relax with individual support throughout.

Day 2 – Finishing & Refinement

The second day is dedicated to finishing your work. Trim to transform - You will learn trimming and turning techniques, explore different foot styles, and be introduced to useful time-saving approaches for refining your pieces.

Each participant will have ample clay and dedicated time to develop, refine, and complete their forms. By the end of the workshop, you will have a selection of finished pieces.

Up to six pots will be bisque fired for you to collect in Cork City. Please allow approximately three weeks for firing and return.
