Join us for a creative and inspiring Tile Making Workshop in the beautiful and spacious surroundings of Chapel Hill School of Art in Macroom.

Over two immersive days, you’ll explore the creative possibilities of tile making — from surface decoration, texture, and pattern, to tile shapes, tessellations, and layouts. This hands-on workshop is designed to build your surface treatment skills and support your individual creative vision.

Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your ceramic practice, you'll find inspiration, encouragement, and expert guidance in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Workshop Schedule

Day 1 – Learn, Explore & Experiment

Morning

  • Welcome and introductions

  • Overview of tools, materials, and tile preparation

  • Demonstrations of surface decoration techniques:

    • Printing onto clay

    • Stamping, resists, rollers, and stencils

    • Working with coloured slips

    • Exploring texture and pattern to suit your design aesthetic

Afternoon

  • Hands-on experimentation using a variety of techniques on pre-prepared tiles

  • One-to-one guidance in a relaxed, creative atmosphere

  • Begin developing ideas and design concepts for Day two

Day 2 – Create & Develop

Bring your ideas to life in a full day of supported making. Day two offers space to deepen your engagement with both material and technique as you shape your own series of tiles.

  • Create your own tiles using prepared clay slabs

  • Apply and refine techniques explored on Day 1

  • Develop a personal tile set or series, based on your own concepts or decorative style

  • Wrap-up session with tips on drying, finishing, and firing techniques

  • One-to-one creative support and encouragement throughout the day

Not Included

Bring your lunch along - picnic on site or enjoy lunch in downtown Macroom just 5 minutes walk away

Finished Work

Your tiles will be glaze fired after the workshop. Please allow approximately 3- 4 weeks for completion. You’ll be notified when your finished tiles are ready for collection in Cork city.

  • Full refund with 7 day notice - cancel on or before May 1st 2026

  • 50 % refund - cancel on or before May 18th

  • No refund - cancel  May 22nd
